The impact of soil erosion and sedimentation continues to be of great concern in areas undergoing construction activities. Improper management of these sites can result in pollution to our water resources.

The Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner's Office (WRC) is responsible for administering the Soil Erosion and Sedimentation Control Act (See Soil Erosion Act, Part 91 of PA 451 of 1994, as amended.) The purpose of the legislation is to minimize erosion and control sedimentation to protect the water resources of the State.

Any earth change/disturbance over one (1) acre in size and/or within 500 feet of a water of the state (including a lake, stream, wetland, or drain) within Oakland County requires a Soil Erosion and Sedimentation Control (SESC) Permit.

The WRC has been designated to serve the communities in Oakland County that do not have a local Soil Erosion Control Program.
