Oakland County Planning Services maintains the county's Solid Waste Plan, administers a household hazardous waste program, and provides recycling and disposal information to residents. Waste and recycling services are managed by the local communities in Oakland County.

You choose the path of your trash. Let us help you find the information and resources you need to dispose of recyclable materials and household hazardous waste properly.

For additional information check out our Waste & Recycling Resources.

Recycling

Recycling programs in Oakland County are managed by the local communities. Many communities offer curbside recycling to residents, while some have a periodic drop-off recycling location. Contact your city, village or township office for additional information.

Several communities belong to one of two solid waste authorities that are located in the southern portion of the county. Visit Resource Recovery and Recycling Authority of Southwest Oakland County (RRRASOC) or Southeastern Oakland County Resource Recovery Authority (SOCRRA) to see if your community is a participating member.

Household Hazardous Waste (HHW)

HHW is the unwanted or unusable portion of consumer products that contain substances that can harm people or the environment if not disposed of properly. Examples of HHW include paints, cleaners, fertilizers, motor oil, batteries, and many other items.

Oakland County does not have a county-wide household hazardous waste disposal program.
However, NoHaz, RRRASOC and SOCRRA provide this service to many local communities, while several other communities operate independent programs.
