Recovery from COVID-19 is our top priority. The $244 million we are receiving from the federal American Rescue Plan is helping Oakland County address both urgent acute needs as well as address long-range problems that have resulted from the pandemic.
Working with the Board of Commissioners, we have already set aside $27.5 million for critical needs in mental health services for adults and students, housing assistance for people facing mortgage foreclosure or eviction, workforce development programs for people looking to gain the education and training they need for good paying jobs and services and coaching for big and small business owners who are still recovering from the pandemic.
We also have a few overriding principles for the remainder of the ARP funding: Continue to fund the ongoing fight against COVID-19, help our struggling residents and businesses and make some key and strategic one-time investments, resulting in transformational change that will provide economic security into the future, address disparities and enhance our quality of life in Oakland County.
