Need Assistance? Pet Assistance Resources
Many pet owners may be struggling right now with what is going on in the world. The Oakland County Animal Shelter and Pet Adoption Center along with our Information Technology team have put together a map showing where pet owners can get resources such as pet food or low-cost clinic care for their pets. With putting these resources at citizens fingertips, the Shelter hopes that they can deter many pet owners from relinquishing their pets to local Shelters such as ours because of the inability to afford food or medical care.
Please check out the link below if you are struggling to provide for your pet.

Also, end of life services can be very costly which may force some pet owners to either put off this very emotional and difficult decision resulting in the pet suffering, or for some, to abandon their pets altogether. The Oakland County Animal Shelter and Pet Adoption Center has always been here to help pet owners through this difficult time. Please contact the Shelter if you are facing this situation at (248) 858-1070 to make an appointment.
Please contact the Shelter at petadoption@oakgov.com if you know of a resource that is not being shown on the map; the more organizations that we can highlight doing these services for pet owners, the more we can keep pets at home with their owners where they belong.
We also have a map with pet resources such as dog parks, shelters, pet supplies, veterinarians and other pet related services. You can check out this map by clicking the following link, Pet Resource Map.
Can't Visit the Shelter or Other Facilities to Purchase Your Dog's License?
You can purchase your dog’s license online.
ATTENTION:
Michigan law REQUIRES ALL DOGS four months of age and older to have a current dog license. Our animal control officers will write a misdemeanor ticket to dog owners who do not have a current license. Offenders will be subject to fees and court costs that could total up to $500.
