Keep yourself and your family safe with OakAlert, the County’s emergency notification system. OakAlert sends texts, calls and emails when emergency situations occur -- where you are or where you live. Because notices come from Oakland County Emergency Management, you can get information faster than from the news or social media.

About the Emergency Notifications

Examples include:

  • Chemical spills impacting public health
  • Outdoor warning siren activation (will not include other weather watches, warnings, or advisories)
  • Active assailant situations causing an evacuation or shelter-in-place orders
  • Significant road closures such as a highway closure not lane closures or daily traffic incidents
  • Closure or interruption in service of county operations
  • Additional notifications affecting the health and safety of the county

The notification tool is powered by CodeRed, an emergency, mass-notification system. It allows citizens to self-register with their name and personal contact information and their own username and password. Oakland County recommends that everyone should have a plan during emergencies and a method to accept notifications in different modes, i.e., NOAA Weather radios, television, phone app, etc. Please ensure your device can receive and interpret messages or alerts that are issued.

Notifications of emergencies, disasters or hazardous situations that would require immediate action will use email or text messaging to the devices registered online.

The messages will be limited to:

  • Imminent or Perceived Threats to Life or Property
  • Disaster Notifications
  • Evacuation Notices
  • Public Health Emergencies
  • Public Safety Emergencies

It is the responsibility of the registered individual to ensure their contact information is accurate and up-to-date. Oakland County cannot guarantee the timely delivery of alerts due to technical variables such as third party email and text messaging systems, as well as individual services to remote and handheld devices.

Purpose

The purpose of this service is to provide accurate and helpful information to concerned citizens, businesses, and governmental agencies. OakAlert is a voluntary service and is at no cost to receive. Alerts will be sent via text and email so standard messaging rates may apply. Information submitted will be kept confidential and not be released to any third party.

Additional Subscriptions

Non-emergency Oakland County information can be received by subscribing to the Oakland County Digital Subscription service where you will be allowed to subscribe to specific community information from Oakland County Departments or Municipalities.
