Certifications and licenses often can be obtained in less than a year. Many skilled trades can be learned through apprenticeships or short-term training. Tuition assistance also may be available. Some training programs even offer college credits. Vocational schools, career colleges and technical schools can save you money and time when compared to earning a two or four year degree.

Free Tuition!
State Launches Michigan Reconnect Program Offering Free Tuition to Eligible Adults
The new Michigan Reconnect program provides eligible adults age 25 or older with the opportunity to earn a tuition-free associate degrees or skills certificates at their local, in-district community colleges or select private training schools.
The goal is to help people prepare for in-demand careers in manufacturing, construction, information technology, health care and business management. This program is directly aligned with Oakand80 program and its objective of having 80 percent of the adults in Oakland County obtain a post-secondary degree or credential by 2030.
Persons can submit a Michigan Reconnect application at Michigan Reconnect.
