Mr. Larky received a diploma from Detroit Central High School, and is a graduate of The University of Michigan. He then took master's classes in personnel administration at Wayne State University, before receiving his law degree from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in January 1970. While in law school, Magistrate Larky clerked for Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Arthur E. Moore.
Following his becoming an attorney in June 1970, he was a partner at two law firms before opening his solo practice in June 1983. Since then, Mr. Larky has been involved as a mediator, arbitrator, and facilitator of civil cases, and maintains a small law practice. Magistrate Larky was appointed a magistrate in the 45th District Court in April 2005 and served in that position until June 2015.
In August 2015, Mr. Larky became a magistrate in the 52-4 District Court. Mr. Larky is a member of the American Bar Association, State Bar of Michigan, Oakland County Bar Association, and the Michigan Association of District Court Magistrates. In the American Bar Association, Magistrate Larky is a member of its House of Delegates. In the State Bar of Michigan, he is a member of its Representative Assembly. In the Oakland County Bar Association, Mr. Larky is co-chair of its Legislative Committee. Mr. Larky also is a member of the Oakland County Bar Association's Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee, Family Court Committee, Circuit Court Committee, and Mediator Selection Committee. In the past, Magistrate Larky was the fiftieth president of the Oakland County Bar Association and the recipient of a number of awards from the association. He is also a frequent lecturer at a law school on the subject of alternative dispute resolution. Mr. Larky is a volunteer arbitrator for the Attorney Grievance Commission.
He recently completed 35 years as a soccer referee. For the Michigan High School Athletic Association, Magistrate Larky has been a longtime television and radio commentator for its boys and girls soccer tournament final matches.
