When an individual is sentenced to a probation term, they will be scheduled for an in-person appointment with the assigned probation officer to review the probation conditions and to be referred to appropriate agencies. If an individual is sentenced to initial jail time and a probation term, he/she must report in-person to the Probation Department within 24 hours of the release from custody or on the next open business day, whichever comes first.

Probationers must appear for all appointments as instructed and on time. Probationers must immediately report any changes in address, telephone number and/or employment status to the probation officer.

Probationers are prohibited from traveling out of the state of Michigan without permission from the probation officer or Judge. All requests should be made in writing, with at least two weeks advanced notice of the requested time of travel. The travel policy and a travel request form are available on the main Probation page under Forms.

It is the probationer's responsibility to carry out the Judge's order. Failure to comply with the sentence conditions may result in the initiation of a probation violation hearing.
