Food, Job Search and Training Assistance

Individuals with food, job search or training needs may volunteer to participate in the Food Assistance, Employment and Training Program, managed by the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services (MDHHS).

Work Requirements

• Employed and work an average of 20 hours or more per week each month. (MDHHS verification required.)
• Or, participate 20 hours per week in the employment and training program at the Foundation for Behavioral Resources in Pontiac, Mich. (A minimum of 80 hours per month. Michigan Works! agency verification required.)
• Or, volunteer at a nonprofit organization to complete community service – MDHHS to determine required number of hours. Completion of monthly Community Service Activity Report is required.

Work Program Exemptions

You may be exempt from the work requirements if you meet any of the following criteria:

• Physically or mentally unable to work 20 hours per week.
• Receive retirement, survivors or disability insurance due to disability or blindness, or receive Supplemental Security Income or state disability assistance.
• Receive or are an applicant for unemployment benefits.
• Participate in a drug or alcohol treatment and rehabilitation program.
• Care for an incapacitated person or a child under six years of age.
• Pregnant
• Victim of domestic violence.
• Reside in a household with a child under age of 18.
